Researchers
Research activities in the Health Care and Service Systems theme
are largely evaluative in nature. They focus on the health system
as a determinant of health and, more specifically, on the impact of
service organization pm clinical practices, service quality,
efficiency and equity.
For example, theme researchers were among the first to report on
the results of implementing the first Family Physician Groups in
Quebec and to demonstrate that they can have a positive impact on
professional practices and patient care. Our research has also shed
light on the extent of suffering experienced by terminal-phase
patients as well as by their caregivers, and the consequences of
this suffering on the quality of care top these individuals. We
also study the development of approaches that help patients with
chronic health problems to become actively involved in managing
their illness.
Major sub-themes:
• Improvement of access to front-line services,
especially for vulnerable people
• Implementation of innovative models of shared care for
managing chronic diseases
• Contribution to the advancement of knowledge about
innovative nursing practices
• Organization of health prevention and promotion services,
especially in the area of sexually transmissible diseases,
gynaecological cancers, and health in the workplace
• Service delivery for individuals at the end of their life
